Internet Basics

Most internet basic instructiuons will assume that you know how to use a mouse or keyboard or computer. I'll assume you have never even used a computer before. My apologies if these notes are too easy. Most other instructions will assume that you care how the internet works. That is all on other pages on this site (and the web), so you can look at them if you are interested.

Firstly the internet is a massive collection of computer files. Computer files are like actual files in the sense that they containg information. Most of these files are writing, but some are pictures, and now even music, films and television.

This page is just writing, but some of mine do contain pictures (when I can get them to work). You can see this page, and read the words. Some words are a different colour and some are underlined. Words are of two kinds - they are either words for your information, or links to get more information. The link is what make the internet so different at delivering information. Look at the top of this page and you can click on mouse or keyboard or computer and this will take you to another page which will give you more information on that particular subject.
